AI Leadership Group

Accelerating a Responsible and Innovative AI Future for Western Massachusetts
The Berkshire Innovation Center’s Artificial Intelligence Leadership Group (AILG) is a regional coalition of business, academic, and civic leaders working to help accelerate responsible AI innovation and regional economic growth by supporting regional manufacturers, life-science companies, educational institutions and emerging ventures with AI capabilities, training, and infrastructure. Through collaborative planning, demonstration projects, and community engagement, AILG is helping Western Massachusetts lead the transition toward an AI technology-driven regional economy by supporting small and mid-sized enterprises — by providing access to applied AI research resources, technical mentorship, industry-specific AI, prototyping and testing environments, and startup incubation support.
Our Mission
AILG’s mission is to help lead Western Massachusetts into the AI era, empowering companies, educating a future-ready workforce, and driving economic growth through the integration of artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and next-generation optical and digital technologies.

Key Initiatives
A Regional Opportunity with Statewide Impact
Massachusetts has launched the Massachusetts AI Hub, a statewide initiative to advance artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and workforce readiness. By aligning with this initiative, BIC can become the Western Massachusetts node in the Commonwealth’s AI ecosystem—bridging innovation capacity between Boston, Worcester, Springfield, and the Berkshires.
This effort builds naturally on BIC’s expanding Advanced Optics Tech Hub at the William Stanley Business Park. Optics and AI are convergent technologies: imaging, sensors, robotics, AR/VR, photonics, and intelligent manufacturing all depend on AI-enabled systems. BIC is uniquely equipped to lead this convergence.
AI TechHub at the William Stanley Business Park
The Berkshire Innovation Center (BIC) is positioned at a defining moment for Western Massachusetts. With its expanding advanced manufacturing and optics infrastructure, strong partnerships, and growing regional talent pipeline, BIC is ready to serve as the anchor of an emerging AI Technology Hub—one that brings the next generation of intelligent technologies, workforce training, applied research, and high-value economic development to the Berkshires. The AILG is leading development of an AI TechHub at the Berkshire Innovation Center. The goal is to make Massachusetts a leader in applied AI innovation, supporting infrastructure (compute/data), research, startups, and workforce development across the Commonwealth.
